A CITY DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN

Omegna, the town in which the famous children's literature writer Gianni Rodari was born, takes space dedicated to children very seriously. Below you will find a list of the main attractions designed for children and their families and a short description of each one.

PARKS, PLAYGROUNDS, TRAILS AND FANTASY!

1 Omegna Public Gardens

Omegna Public Gardens The main playground is located in the town centre, near the moorage of Navigazione del Lago d’Orta ferries. Children can play on the swings and slides, safe from the dangers of the road, and enjoy beautiful views of the lake. The playground also has a merry-go-round (available for a fee).

2 Forum Playground

Forum Playground The park inspired by the works of Gianni Rodari is just a few steps away from Omegna's town centre and is connected thanks to a footpath that runs along the Nigoglia river. It has swings, slides, a giant chessboard and a mini zip line.

3 Fantasy Park

Fantasy Park A literary and educational park for children designed to promote and divulge the work of Gianni Rodari and his “fantasy method”. The facilities comprise a Playroom, the Gardens of the Cake in the Sky and the Forum.

4 Omegna Playroom

Omegna Playroom Fantasy Park's Playroom is inspired by Gianni Rodari's nursery rhyme “Il bambino di gesso” (The Chalk Boy). The room is hosted on the ground floor of the Civic Library and is named after our illustrious fellow citizen. It is a space where children can enjoy different play areas, on their own, or with entertainers: wood building blocks, a blackboard to write on the wall, the kitchen, the indoor swings and a crossword puzzle on the ceiling. In the Playroom, children can watch, read, "touch" and "play" the stories written by Gianni Rodari, in an environment that reflects the beauty of Lake Orta. A space to create, have fun and reinvent oneself, available for parties and to celebrate birthdays in an original and smart way.

5 The Gardens of the Cake in the Sky

The Gardens of the Cake in the Sky Monte Zuoli is a 400-metre-high hill just 3 km from Omegna, with some interesting evidence of prehistoric culture. The park is on the hills overlooking Lake Orta. The rocky landscape has around twenty quite large "cup mark" engravings. The perfect place to play and enjoy the great outdoors, especially if you like walking and picnicking surrounded by nature. At the top of the hill there is an area with seats – some of which are sheltered – barbecue equipment and facilities for visitors.

6 Forum Omegna

Forum Omegna Founded in 1998, thanks to EU contributions and the commitment of the town's citizens, the Forum is a structure managed by the Omegna Museum Art and Industry Foundation to promote historical research on industrialisation processes, preservation of the memory of the industrial civilisation and the identity of the territory. It hosts a permanent collection as well as displays and exhibitions on the industrial history of household products, the territory and other cultural aspects. A place for special educational opportunities, including for young professionals. The Omegna Forum has a Shop that sells local food and hand crafted products. 7 Lamberto Park

Lamberto Park The path that takes from the lake banks to Bagnella, a newly-inaugurated green area, features some of the characters inspired by one of Gianni Rodari's stories, Barone Lamberto. The area is equipped with benches, a walking library and offers great views of the lake.

8 Bagnella Playground

Bagnella Playground A recently-inaugurated playground in the residential area of Bagnella, opposite the junior school. It features two swings (one with basket seat) and a spring-mounted rocking game, all designed to make sure that children with disabilities can also play and enjoy. The playground also features a castle slide and two game panels surrounded by shock absorbing paving, all set in a pleasant green environment.

9 Monte Zuoli

Monte Zuoli Passed Bagnella, at the bottom of the hill that goes to Nonio, is where Monte Zuoli Fitness Trail starts. A recently-renewed trail that connects Omegna to the top of our town's highest hill. The equipment is located all along the trail in dedicated areas and is available to anyone wishing to train outdoors. Close by there is a mountain bike ring track and two natural rock climbing facilities.

10 Aldone Farmhouse

Aldone Farmhouse Aldone Farmhouse, in Cireggio, is just a short drive from Omegna's town centre. A place surrounded by nature, where children can have fun and play safely. The farm's residents include goats, rabbits, cows, sheep and birds: each animal has a name, like the members of a family. The playground can be booked for school trips, birthdays and outdoor events.

11 San Vito Patron Saint Festival

San Vito Patron Saint Festival Just a 30-minute drive from Omegna, Mottarone is a renowned skiing holiday destination. Its amusement park, Alpyland, features a bob-sleigh on rails that can be enjoyed both in winter and in summer. Fun for all ages, a place surrounded by the Alps, the lakes and the hills of Lombardy.

12 Omegna Dog Home

Omegna Dog Home Omenga Dog Home is just five minutes by car from Omegna's town centre, immediately after the entrance to the Fitness Trial. Everyone is welcome to “adopt” a canine friend, even if just for a few hours, and go for a walk on Monte Zuoli or in town.
